The Batman Moustache Poster

I was commissioned to create a conceptual representation of a moustache for Movember 2013. Since the company I produced it for goes by the name of Hero, I thought it was only fitting that I produce something with heroic connotations.  Since I had watched Batman’s – The Dark Night Rises the previous night, I was inspired to do two things. One was to spend the day speaking in a muffled voice as if I had been strangled earlier in the morning (see the film, you will know what I am referring to). The second was to illustrate a Bat Mo-stache. The shapes of a moustache and a batman logo just seemed like the perfect combination.

I started out with a few sketches and researched batman logos and how they have changed over the years. I settled on one that was quite contemporary and suited my concept.

I will be the first to admit that I have a corny sense of humour and while I know that the batman series of posters will always lean toward the darker hues. I decided to try to make something that looks the complete opposite of what a Batman poster would normally be. I even gave some tongue in cheek copywriting a go. How are these lines for cheesy?

“Out of the stubble, and after 8 years in seclusion – The Dark ‘Tache Rises”

Finally the real acid test was asking Emily, my six-year-old daughter, who happens to be the leading authority on all things Batman: ” What does that look like Emily?”. To which I am pleased to report she responded: “BATMAN!”. So there you have it. The very first Bat-Mo.

Hope you like it as much as I enjoyed creating it. I also hop to create more Mo-Themed projects for the duration of Movember.

Go on, share it…
